McLaren W1 Debut

October 6th is an important date for McLaren history books. It first represented the day they won the Construction challenge in 1974, 50 years on, it signifies the next generation of McLaren 1 Series Supercar. Today, Sunday 6th October 2024, McLaren unveiled the W1.

Featuring 1257bhp, the new V8 engine and battery powered hybrid engine is revolutionary at McLAren. The motor is a radial flex unit and develops 347bhp alone with the V8 pulling 928hp. The current weight of the unit is 1399 kg, 300 kg lighter than a current Renault Megane. With 1340 Nm of torque the next generation of hypercar can reach from 0-100 km in 2.7seconds, 0-200 km in 5.8seconds and 0-300 km in 12.7seconds.

The next instalment of the hypercar series, the W1 will make its mark in the legacy that has been set in the motors before it. Four years after the loss of the founder Bruce McLaren, lead by Teddy Mayer, the F1 model took away the top innovation award of the year. The F1 would be the first super car produced by McLaren and the beginning of a legacy that's brought us to now.

The P1 would be the next instalment of the ultimate series debuted in 2013. The P1 would feature a 3.4L V8 twin turbo-charged engine and has 903bhp. That’s a lot of power to be pushing with 664 lbs of torque. The P1 reaches 0-100 km in 2.8 seconds and only 375 units were produced including some special editions. The W1 by comparison in its redesign and aerodynamic optimisation is sleeker and more efficient. It will be interesting to see how the other brands follow now McLaren have debuted the W1.
