IDC 2024 -Round 1

The Irish Drift Championships hit a major milestone this year, celebrating 20 years of tyre smoking and sending it sideways. Kicking off Round 1 in Mondello Park, Naas. The 2024 Irish Drift Championships started off with a roaring weekend of door rubbing, smoke and drifting. The practise round might have well been the grand final the way these lads hit the tarmac. After the off season, there were new builds to play with, new tactics to employ and a whole load of brand new tyres to warm up.

The Pro2 and Pro2 Rookie classes were the first to grace the tarmac. It was Eoin Magner and David Curtis who battled their way to the final. It was a hard fought battle, the smoke was billowing from the tyres and the skills of the drone pilot were put to the test. It was David Curtis who emerged the victor, Owen Magner battled ferociously and took second place. Amazing displays of skill and sportsmanship were shown amongst the group. The respect within the community is something incredible.

This year isn’t just any year for the Irish Drift Championships, it’s a milestone anniversary. Celebrating 2 full decades of sideways action this is surely the one to put a driver in the history books. It was more than enough to bring Driftmasters driver Josiah Fallaise over to run his 1000bhp Corvette in the opening round in Mondello. Not to miss out, DMac and James dean brought the Group D Audi Quatro and the RX-7 out for a spin as well much to the delight of the fans in mondello.

Sunday saw a whole different ball game. Mondello was set upon by 15,000 spectators and the Pro’s were unleashed to have their fun. Our drivers dry conditions for the most part and qualifying saw the track as smoky as the adrenaline was high. The guys were'’t here to play, they were here to win.

As the grand stands were packed and Japfest was in full swing at one end of the track. The Pro’s began the battle before they went to war. After a nail biting and very close qualifying, it was time for the top 32 to go head to head for round one glory. As top 4 to fight it out were Darragh Spencer, Harry Kerr, Brendan Stone and Kevin Quinn were the last men standing. After a series of beautifully fought battles, the thrills, spills and so much smoke, it was Darragh Spencer who took home the silverware for the day. The tyre’s will barely be cooled down before we head back to rebel county for round 2 in Watergrasshill. One thing for sure, there will be revenge, doors will be rubbed.
