University Hospital Kerry Toy Drive
University Hospital Kerry had an unexpected visitor on Sunday 15th December. Led by a Garda escorted convoy of 14 Japanese modified cars filled with toys, Santa Claus made a trip to visit the Cashel ward in UHK.
Organised by local motor enthusiasts Tommy McElligott and Ciaran Sheehan, the group came together to coordinate the collection and delivery for the ward. They wanted to do something for the community this holiday season and decided they could bring Christmas to those who wouldn't be able to spend it at home. A toy drive was the decided route to go and so the lads got to work.
The group raised a considerable sum via online donations in order to purchase the Christmas haul. The staff of the hospital were gleefully waiting on the convoy as the reception area was filled with a mountain of toys. On the ward the arrival of Santa with so many presents caused an excited stir. Santa successfully brought a bit of Christmas cheer to the ward and left with this favourite reindeer Drifter and Chaser.
Such a lovely sight outside of the hospital as the staff happily accepted all donations on the day. This is a fabulous example of the local automotive community giving back to those around them. Next year will be better of course, we can’t wait to see how big the guys go.
