IDC 2024 - Round 2

IDC has taken us to Rebel County. In a small village in the north east of Cork, Watergrasshill is the origin story of James Deane and the Shanahan brothers. The local track that brought us some of the best drivers in the world saw Round 2 kick off with all the action. Sadly Watergrasshill lived up to its name as a total wash out, then again being in Ireland we know it would be a great country if you could put a roof over it.

Friday’s practice saw the driver's send it as if they were battling it out in the final! The dry conditions allowed them a fun warm up day ahead of the competition while working out the kinks of the cars. Sadly, someone forgot to sacrifice a Fiat 500 for Saturday and the weather conditions made the tight layout of the course all the more challenging once the rain rolled in.

Those who have been to Watergrasshill know there isn’t much margin for error as the track has a technically challenging design. That didn’t stop the Pro2 Junior, Pro2 Rookies and Pro 2 drivers from giving it everything on the track. It was Ben Rogers took top podium on the Saturday after a fantastic day of driving. Jacob Kryszczak, Peter Molloy and Clarke Hatton followed suit after a massive final four. The lads were ready to come out and give the big boys a run for their money on the Sunday

As for the Pro drivers, the level of skill and precision on the track was practically show stopping, Harry Kerr and Alan Hynes found themselves in a clash of the titans in the final in slightly drier conditions. It was an all out dog fight for the top spot of the podium. A tough battle until the end, once the tyre smoke had cleared, Harry Kerr was the driver to come away the victor of round 2. Alan Hynes put up a hell of a fight but in the end, it was not his day. Third place was taken by Jack Mawhinney joined Harry and Alan on the podium after a day of hard driving. A great weekend of high octane action and despite the never ending downpour, our drivers had a fantastic weekend in Watergrasshill.

Will round 3 bring some pay back? We’re back at Mondello Park June 27th for round 3 of the championship and the halfway mark in the competition!
